What is Rachet?
Ratchet is defined as a gear with a rigid toothed surface or friction surface on the outer or inner edge. It is an important component of the ratchet mechanism. The ratchet is pushed into a stepping motion. The characteristic of this meshing motion is that the ratchet can only rotate in one direction and cannot reverse.
1. Ratchet Buckle structure
The ratchet is the main component of the ratchet mechanism. The spring forces the pawl and ratchet to remain in contact. The rocker is mounted on the ratchet shaft, the pawl is mounted on the rocker, and the ratchet is firmly connected to the driven shaft with a key.
A ratchet is a mechanical mechanism that keeps linear reciprocating or rotating motion in a single direction to prevent the transmission mechanism from reversing. It is actually an intermittent motion mechanism that converts the first two modes of motion into one-way stepping motion. Work is accompanied by noise and vibration, so the working frequency cannot be too high.
2. Ratchet Buckle Principle
When the active rocker swings counterclockwise, the driving pawl is inserted into the tooth groove of the ratchet wheel, pushing the ratchet wheel through an angle. At this time, the stop pawl slides on the tooth back of the ratchet wheel. When the active part rocker swings clockwise, the stop pawl prevents the ratchet wheel from rotating clockwise, but the driving pawl can slide over the back of the ratchet tooth, so the ratchet wheel remains stationary. In this way, when the rocker swings continuously back and forth, the ratchet wheel makes one-way intermittent motion. Among them, the reciprocating swing of the active part can be obtained by the swing follower cam mechanism, the crank rocker mechanism, or by hydraulic transmission and electromagnetic devices.
3. Main types of Rachet
The gear-type ratchet mechanism has a simple structure, is easy to manufacture, and works reliably. The size of the ratchet angle can be adjusted in steps. However, because the pawl slides on the back of the ratchet tooth during the return stroke, it is easy to wear and generate noise. In addition, in order for the pawl to smoothly engage between the teeth of the ratchet wheel, the displacement of the pawl must be greater than the corresponding displacement of the ratchet motion angle, which results in backlash and impact. The friction ratchet mechanism does not have the above shortcomings, and the rotation angle of the driven wheel can be adjusted steplessly. However, due to the easy sliding between the contact surfaces, the accuracy and reliability of its movement are worse than that of the gear ratchet mechanism. Generally speaking, ratchet mechanisms are not suitable for use in situations where high speed or high movement precision is required.
Ratchet buckle mechanisms are often used to achieve movements such as feeding, indexing, braking, and overrunning clutches. The types, characteristics and applications of ratchet mechanisms are as follows:
1.Tooth ratchet (mechanism)
Features: Single-action ratchet mechanism
Application: There are rigid gear teeth on the outer edge or inner edge; the ratchet angle can only be a multiple of the center angle between two adjacent teeth, and can only be adjusted step by step. The structure is simple, easy to manufacture, and the movement is reliable, but it is easy to cause noise and tooth tip wear, and the transmission stability is poor.
2. Friction ratchet (mechanism)
Features: Movement is transmitted through the friction between the pawl and the ratchet wheel, achieving stepless intermittent movement of the ratchet wheel.
Application: It is also commonly used as a stopper or brake in the feeding mechanism of machine tools and automatic machines.
3. Overriding ratchet (mechanism)
Features: In addition to being commonly used to achieve intermittent motion, it can also achieve overrunning motion, that is, the driven part can rotate beyond the driving part.
Application: On the rear axle of a bicycle.
4. Application of ratchet products
1. Ratchet wrench. A quick wrench made using the principle of a ratchet mechanism. For example: ratcheting torx wrench, ratcheting hexagonal wrench.
2. Industrial ratchet products. A manual screw tightening tool, single-headed, double-headed, multi-specification movable handle ratchet box wrench (fixed hole). It is connected by the main plum blossom sleeve of different specifications and the slave plum blossom sleeve through the engagement of the female key and the male key of the hinge key. Since a plum-shaped sleeve has two specifications of plum-shaped through holes, it can be used to tighten and tighten screws of two specifications, thereby expanding the scope of use and saving raw materials and labor costs. The movable trigger can easily adjust the wrench angle. This kind of wrench is used for tightening and tightening screws, and has the characteristics of strong applicability, easy use and low cost.
3. The ratchet (instrument) is a type of percussion instrument. The principle is the same as that of an industrial ratchet. It is equipped with a gear that can only rotate in one direction, and several thin wood chips attached to the teeth. When the gear rotates, the teeth touch the thin wood piece, causing it to bend. Then the wood piece rebounds back to its original position and contacts the next tooth. During this period, the friction and impact between the two produce a "pop, pop" sound.
The ratchet effect, also known as the wheel-locking effect, refers to the irreversibility of people's consumption habits after they are formed, that is, it is easy to adjust upward but difficult to adjust downward.
