How to Use a Ratchet Tie-down Strap

Time: 2023-11-02 Source: Author: Cruise
It's very important to use a ratchet tie-down strap correctly. In order to ensure the safety and security of your cargo, please refer to the following steps.
1.Select a tie-down strap that is appropriate for the size and weight of your cargo. The strap should have a Working Load Limit (WLL) that exceeds the weight of your cargo.
2.Before use, carefully inspect the strap for any signs of damage, such as cuts, fraying, or wear. Make sure the ratchet mechanism is in good working condition and all parts are in place.
3.Select Anchor Points:
Identify suitable anchor points on your vehicle or the structure where you are securing the cargo. These anchor points should be strong and stable.
4.Thread the Strap:
Open the ratchet handle and release the strap completely. Pass the loose end of strap through or around the cargo and pull it through. The end with the ratchet mechanism should be on the same side as the cargo. Pass the other end of the strap through or around the cargo and attach it to the anchor point on the opposite side.
5.Ratchet the Strap:
Close the ratchet handle to create tension in the strap. Use the ratchet handle to tighten the strap by repeatedly moving it up and down. This will increase the tension on the strap until the cargo is secure. Make sure not to over-tighten, as it can damage the strap or your cargo.
6.Secure the Ratchet:
Once the strap is tight and the cargo is secure, lock the ratchet handle in place to prevent it from coming undone. Ensure it's securely locked and can't accidentally release. Engage the ratchet's locking mechanism to prevent the strap from unwinding.
7.Repeat for Additional Straps:
If you're using multiple tie-down straps, repeat the process to secure the cargo from different angles.
8.Test the Straps:
After securing the cargo, give the straps a firm tug to ensure they are holding the load securely. Check for any signs of slack or movement.
9.Release and Store:
When you arrive at your destination, release the ratchet mechanism by opening the handle. Carefully unthread the strap from the cargo and anchor points. Store the straps properly to prevent damage and ensure they are ready for future use.
