Do You Know How to Set Up a Slackline?
Material Preparation:
Slackline Kit: This typically includes the flat webbing, ratchet, and tree protectors.
Tree Protectors: Straps or paddings made from synthetic fiber to protect the trees from damage.
Tensioning System: Usually a ratchet system or pulley system.
A Level Surface: Choose a spot with level ground for better stability.
Choose Your Location:
Find two strong anchor points like trees or posts. Ensure they are healthy and won't be damaged by the slackline.
Set Up Tree Protection:
Wrap tree protectors around the anchor points to avoid damaging the tree bark. This is crucial for environmental and safety reasons.
Attach the Slackline to One Anchor Point:
Find the short strap with the ratchet, thread the ratchet through the loop, wrap around the first anchor point and secure it using a strong knot. Keep the ratchet facing down. (Ratchet underneath the flat webbing). The maximum height recommnded for a slackline is around 18" (50CM) off the ground.
Wrap the Slackline Around the Second Anchor Point:
Wrap the other long strap of the slackline around the second anchor point and secure again. Walk the flat webbing of slackline to the first anchor point, keeping it untangled and flat on the ground. And continue until the line is tight. Then thread the long line through the slot of the ratchet.
Secure the Slackline:
Start tightening the slackline with the ratchet. Increase the tension of the flat webbing by pulling back and forth on the ratchet handle. Do not overfill the ratchet. Be sure to follow the recommended tension levels.
Check the Alignment:
Ensure that the slackline is straight and aligned. It should not twist or have any knots.
Test the Tension:
Once tensioned, bounce gently on the slackline to check if it feels firm and secure. Adjust the tension if needed.
Safety Checks:
Double-check all knots, connections, and tension before using the slackline. Safety is paramount.
Unlock and Release the Slackline
Grab the ratchet handle with your thumb and palm and pull the releasing lever with your other fingers to unlock the ratchet, then pull the handle of the ratchet towards the direction of the long strap until it's parallel with the long strap. The handle should be positioned beneath the long strap. At this point, use your hand to pull the long strap, which will loosen the slackline.
Remember that safety is crucial when setting up and using a slackline. Always follow the manufacturer, DMSLING's instructions and guidelines, and consider using a spotter, especially if you are a beginner.
