What are the Common Types of Synthetic Fiber Slings?
Do you know how many common types of Synthetic Fiber Slings are there? Let DMSLING help you sort things out.
Common synthetic fiber lifting slings can be classified by material composition: there are polyester lifting slings, nylon lifting slings, polypropylene lifting slings, and aramid lifting slings.
Polyester Lifting Slings:
Polyester lifting slings have a high cost-effectiveness and versatile applicability. Polyester is a high-strength synthetic fiber, capable of withstanding substantial loads, suitable for various heavy lifting tasks. These slings exhibit minimal stretching, with elongation during working loads being less than 3% of the body length. Polyester is resistant to weak acids, highly absorbent, suitable for acidic conditions, and moist working environments. It is unaffected by common acids and high-temperature bleaches. However, it's not suitable for use with concentrated sulfuric acid or alkaline substances; cannot be used in temperatures exceeding 100°C or below -40°C. Common load capacities range from 1 ton to 500 tons. In conclusion, polyester lifting sling is a cost-effective and widely used type of lifting sling.
Nylon Lifting Slings:
Comparatively more expensive than polyester lifting slings, nylon lifting slings have higher abrasion resistance than polyester. They are unaffected by oils and fats, have good chemical resistance to aldehydes, ethers, and strong alkalis. However, they are not suitable for use with acids and bleaches; cannot be used in temperatures exceeding 100°C or below -40°C. Under the rated load, elongation during stretching is approximately 6-8% of the body length, greater than that of polyester lifting slings. Due to nylon's high moisture absorption, exposure to moisture may weaken the strength of the slings by over 10%. Common load capacities range from 1 ton to 200 tons.
Polypropylene Lifting Slings:
Also known as PP lifting slings, they are much cheaper than polyester and nylon, with lesser strength in relative terms . PP lifting slings are suitable for lifting lighter-weight cargo. They are generally not available in multiple colors, primarily in bleached white, and are mostly used as disposable lifting slings, not intended for repeated use. Polypropylene has a minor impact from acids or alkalis, suitable for acidic and alkaline environments requiring high chemical resistance (except solvents). Operating temperature range: -40°C to 80°C. Common load capacities range from 1 ton to 10 tons.
Aramid Lifting Slings:
Aramid lifting slings are more expensive than the aforementioned types. Aramid is also a high-strength synthetic fiber, thus aramid lifting slings possess outstanding strength and abrasion resistance, capable of bearing significant weight and maintaining long-term durability. Aramid exhibits excellent chemical stability, corrosion resistance to many chemicals, and stable performance in various environmental conditions. These slings have a certain level of heat resistance or flame retardancy, suitable for safe use in high-temperature and flammable working environments. They also have better resistance to ultraviolet rays compared to other synthetic fiber straps. Operating temperature range: -40°C to 200°C. Common load capacities range from 1 ton to 500 tons.
