Features of Polypropylene
PP strap manufacturer and PP strap supplier will show you the features of polypropylene for help you to choose the suitable materials for your bundling straps, packing ropes and lifting slings. You will learn about the detailed features of polypropylene in the following.
Polypropylene (PP for short) is the trade name for polypropylene fiber. Industrial production of polypropylene began in 1957. Since the raw material only requires propylene, the source is extremely abundant and cheap, and the production process is simple. It is currently the cheapest synthetic fiber. Polypropylene has good performance and rapid development. Its output ranks fourth in the world after polyester, nylon, and acrylic.
⑴ Production of polypropylene
The polypropylene used to produce polypropylene fiber is made using a solution polymerization method. Its thermal decomposition temperature is 350~380℃, and its melting point is 150~176℃, so soft spinning method is used.
⑵ Characteristics and uses of polypropylene
① Relative density: Polypropylene has the smallest relative density among all synthetic fibers, so it has the lightest mass and can cover the largest area per unit weight of fiber.
② Strength: The strength of polypropylene is similar to that of high-strength synthetic fibers such as polyester and nylon, but its strength does not change when wet, which is better than nylon.
③ Abrasion resistance: The flat abrasion resistance of polypropylene is second only to nylon, but the curved abrasion resistance is slightly worse. Corrosion resistance: significant stability to inorganic acids and alkali.
④ Hygroscopicity: Polypropylene has very little hygroscopicity and the fabric shrinkage is small.
⑤ Disadvantages: poor light resistance, poor dyeability, high static electricity, and poor flame resistance.
In addition, polypropylene, like other synthetic fibers, is not prone to mold, rot, or insects. Polypropylene is mainly used in carpets (including carpet base fabrics and suede), decorative fabrics, geotextiles, non-woven fabrics, various ropes, strips, fishing nets, building reinforcement materials, packaging materials, etc. Among them, polypropylene non-woven fabrics are eye-catching due to their extensive application in baby diapers and women's sanitary napkins. Polypropylene can also be blended with a variety of fibers to make different types of blended fabrics, which can be knitted to make outerwear, sportswear, etc. The quilt made of polypropylene hollow fiber is light, warm and elastic.
